Glossary
The words StrideUp uses, in alphabetical order. Each one links to the page that explains it in full.
Archive — retiring a workout or a week from a library. It leaves the pickers, and anything already placed stays as it is. See The three libraries.
Assistant Coach — a coach who builds and places workouts and invites people. The season itself stays with the Head Coach. See Roles.
Athlete — a sprinter the team trains. Athletes use the phone app, and the web app sends them to it.
Block — one set of reps in a running section, run to one prescription. For example 3 sets of 4×30m, with its own recovery between reps and between sets.
Branch — a deviation from the team plan for one group or one athlete. It carries only the days that differ, and it merges back when it ends. See Branches.
Check-in — the short report an athlete files each morning, before training. They pick a word for their sleep, energy and soreness, and mark where they are sore. It says how the athlete is, never what they did. See Check-ins and measures.
Coach title — an optional label on a coach, such as “Strength Coach”. It is for display and carries no permissions.
Commit — one day’s workout on one line of the plan, the team’s or a branch’s.
Competition — a real meet on one date. StrideUp tracks it as something to peak toward and a place results come from. See Competitions and goals.
Competition result — the event and time an athlete files after a meet. Results are where personal bests come from.
Cycle — a dated range that annotates the season: a macrocycle, a mesocycle or a microcycle. A workout falls inside whatever cycles cover its date.
Draft — a placed workout athletes cannot see yet. Draft controls athlete visibility, and nothing else. See Draft and published.
Entry — one athlete on the start list for a competition. An entry with no event means the athlete is going, with the events picked later.
Exercise — a reusable movement in the exercise library: a drill, a lift or a core move. A coach drops one into a section instead of typing it again.
Focus — a tag on a library workout naming its emphasis, such as acceleration or tempo. A workout can carry several, and focus is what you filter by.
Goal — a training group’s aim to peak for a competition, carrying an A, B or C priority. A goal with no group covers the whole team.
Group — in a strength section, several exercises trained as one unit, such as a superset. The sets and rest sit on the group, and the reps and load on each exercise.
Head Coach — the coach who owns the team: the season, the workouts and the membership. Only this role creates the team, shapes the season and deactivates people.
Invite — a coach’s pending invitation for one email address in one role. It is consumed when that person first signs in.
Join code — a team’s shared code, eight characters, that an athlete types into the app to ask to join. One per team, and the Head Coach can rotate it. It names the team and grants nothing by itself. See Hand out your join code.
Join request — a person’s pending request to join a team, made with its join code and answered by a coach. Always for the Athlete role: the mirror of an invite, with the athlete knocking instead of the coach reaching out.
Macrocycle — a phase of the season built to peak for one A goal, such as the indoor macrocycle. A season has one or more.
Main plan — the team’s shared season plan, the line every group and athlete follows by default. All deviation happens as branches off it.
Measure — a named quantity tracked for an athlete over time, such as a one-rep max. Measures feed the percentages a coach writes into training.
Merge — ending a branch on a date. From that date the group or athlete follows the team plan again.
Mesocycle — a multi-week block inside a macrocycle with one training emphasis. It can follow a pattern such as 3:1, meaning three loading weeks then a lighter one.
Microcycle — one week of training inside a mesocycle. It is the unit you publish as a whole.
One-rep max — the estimated maximum for a lift, computed from a set the athlete logged. It resolves the %1RM loads a coach writes. See Log a lift.
Personal best — an athlete’s fastest recorded time for an event, derived from their competition results. It resolves the %PB running targets a coach writes.
Progression — an authoring tool that repeats one session across weeks and steps it up. It writes concrete workouts, and you can edit every one. See Ramp a progression.
Protocol — a named warm-up structure that fixes the phases, such as RAMP (Raise, Activate, Mobilise, Potentiate). A free warm-up needs none.
Publish — making a placed workout visible to athletes. It is a toggle, so you can take a workout back out of their week.
Quick add — a shorthand for typing running blocks and strength groups as text. The text expands into normal structure and is never stored. See Quick add syntax.
Rest day — rest you prescribed, stored as a real placement. An empty day instead means nothing is planned yet.
RPE — how hard a session felt, from 1 to 10, where 10 is all out. It runs the opposite way to the check-in scales, because that is how coaches read effort. See Report a session.
Season — a team’s training plan between two dates, with a status of draft, active or completed. The phone app reads the active season that covers today.
Section — a typed part of a workout. There are four: warm-up, running, strength and core. See Workouts and sections.
Session — one occasion an athlete turns up to: a published workout on their day, or a meet they are entered for. Prescribed rest and an empty day are not sessions.
Session report — what an athlete files after a session. It carries what happened (completed, cut short or missed), an RPE if they completed it, a reason if they did not, and an optional note. See Report a session.
Taper — the planned drop in load in the weeks before an A goal. You mark those microcycles as taper weeks and plan them yourself.
To do — the list on the athlete’s Today tab holding everything waiting on them, soonest to expire first. See See your week.
Team — one coaching staff and their sprinters. Everyone belongs to exactly one team, and everything else belongs to a team.
Training days — the weekdays a team normally trains, set on the season. The filling tools start from them, and they never write a day on their own.
Training group — a squad inside a team that trains together, such as “U18 sprints”. An athlete belongs to one group, or to none.
Unavailable window — days one athlete cannot train, such as a holiday. It writes an empty branch over those days that merges back on their return. See Availability and rest.
Viewing — the picker that decides whose plan the calendar shows. What you view is what you edit. See The calendar.
Waitlist — the closed-beta gate on creating a team. Someone who signs in and says they coach waits there until we approve them. Athletes never pass through it; they arrive by invite or join request.
Weeks library — the team’s collection of reusable week patterns. Placing one fills a week with a copy of each day.
Workout — one training session, built from sections. You keep it in the library or place it on a day, and placing copies it.
Workouts library — the team’s collection of reusable sessions, kept unplaced. Placing one copies it onto a day, and the two are independent afterward.
