The season and its cycles

A season is a team’s training plan between two dates. It covers the workouts placed on days, the cycles that annotate those days, and the competitions the team builds toward.

A season carries a status: draft, active, or completed. A completed season is a record, and its days open read only.

A season also carries its training days, the weekdays the team normally trains. StrideUp uses them when it fills a season from a pattern.

Cycles give the season its shape. They are dated ranges with a name, and they nest.

  • A macrocycle is a phase built to peak for one goal competition, for example the indoor macrocycle.
  • A mesocycle is a multi-week block inside a macrocycle, with one training emphasis.
  • A microcycle is one week of training inside a mesocycle.

A mesocycle can also follow a pattern, for example 3:1 or 2:1. The pattern says how many loading weeks come before a lighter week.

A cycle can carry a role: load, deload, test or taper. The role says what that block is for.

A workout sits on a date, and it falls inside whatever cycles cover that date.

So you can plan a day that no cycle covers, and moving a cycle boundary leaves every workout where it is.

The wizard proposes a structure, and everything it creates stays editable afterward.

Every day of the season is a concrete placement you can change on its own.
